In Buddhism, the term mua or anattā refers to the doctrine of "non-self" – that no unchanging, permanent self or essence can be found in any phenomenon. While often interpreted as a denial of the existence of self, mua is more accurately described as a strategy to attain non-attachment by recognizing everything as impermanent, while staying silent on the ultimate existence of an unchanging essence. Artists in this exhibition observe the uncanny reality and reconnect us to the surroundings by taking us on a journey through theirs.
