Chinese digital artist and designer Fanrui Sun is a pioneer in combining luxury with 3D technology. She has worked with brands and creative agencies such as Adidas, Mercedes-Benz and Nick Knight's Ikon-1, and has been recognised by prestigious publications such as China Daily, Cosmo China and ARTEMIS. She is also the 2023/24 recipient of the ITS digital fashion award.
Fanrui has an MA in Fashion from the Royal College of Art in London and is a member of Xtended-Identity, a leading digital fashion brand that recognises the multifaceted nature of human identity, both in the physical and digital realms. She is currently one of the ten designers for SYKY Collective, a prestigious luxury fashion incubator specializing in digital fashion. More recently, the artist launched her first collection, Morphologies, at London Fashion Week.
As one of the designers leading the exploration of new forms of fashion, Fanrui draws inspiration from the mysterious and largely unexplored organic forms of marine life. She combines these physical inspirations with digital technological traits such as algorithms and open methods, imagining clothing as a force that can transform the body and the definition of identity. Fanrui also looks at the potential pitfalls of digital media in order to make digital fashion more accessible and promote equity within the industry." She says, "My vision is to provide a richer clothing experience by thinking about the connections and boundaries between fashion, media and life.
