Dana Nechmad

Dana Nechmad is an interdisciplinary artist working with painting, drawing, embroidery and video. She aims to decipher the physical, psychological and philosophical construct which is the human body. At the core of her practice is the tenuous relationship between interiority and exteriority as she seeks ways to penetrate one to glimpse at the other. Spanning multiple geographies, her practice evolved across different mediums including painting, textile and installation, through which she explores different ways of embodiment and representation.

Nechmad earned a BFA from the Libera Academia di belle Arti, Florence, Italy, alongside a certificate from Angel Academy in Florence. She completed an MA in Philosophy from the Tel Aviv University, and later obtained an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2018-2019 she participated in the FIELD/WORK Residency, Chicago Artists Coalition, Chicago, IL. The artist founded the experimental artist-run Pen Incest Art Publication alongside artist Samir Nahas in 2019.

Nechmad has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions in various international settings, including: ‘In Tension’ at The Bee in the Lion Gallery, NYC (2019), ‘Mother and Child’ at Almacen gallery in Jaffa (2022) and ‘Stepping Stones’ at Loushy Art Project space in Tel Aviv (2022). Her work can be found in the Dubi Shiff Art collection, LunArt Collection, Joan Flaschartist book Collection, Rappaport Family collection and more.
