James Putnam is an independent curator and writer, educated in Art History at London University. He began his career at the British Museum, spearheading the 'Time Machine' exhibition in 1994 and founding its Contemporary Arts and Cultures Programme in 1999. Putnam's work merges contemporary art with historical contexts, notably through ongoing exhibitions at the Freud Museum, London. He has published extensively, including 'Art and Artifact – the Museum as Medium,' and has held academic roles at New York University and the University of the Arts, London. Currently, he is a Senior Research Fellow, Exhibitions at the London College of Fashion.
